Query Optimization and AI

These are the slides from our talk at DataConLA. We start with what a query optimizer is (and isn’t) and a brief history of the field, then dig into how Postgres plans queries: scan methods, reading EXPLAIN ANALYZE output, statistics and selectivity, join strategies, and the genetic query optimizer. We finish with some first steps in using AI to analyze and tune query plans.
